It's A Boy!

On Mother's Day, May 9, we welcomed Maxwell Verdayne Naylor to our family! It was the perfect Mother's Day gift!

The day started off as a typical Sunday morning, except Pat was making the pancakes instead. I decided that I just didn't 'feel right' and decided to get a shower and dressed while Pat finished up breakfast - maybe it was a mother's instinct? While eating I started to feel some contractions - pretty close together, but nothing intense. I really kind of shrugged them off, but still told Pat and my mom about them. (Mom was in town for the weekend since Pat had some work obligations - just in case). This worried Pat so he got dressed and packed his bag. Contractions were getting closer together, but still not very strong. Pat called the doctor and said to come in. So we left the house at 9:15, arrived at the hospital at 9:45. During this 30 minutes my contractions were coming one after another and were very strong. Pat parked in the drop-off section - thinking he was just going to drop me off and get me settled in triage. But triage said that I was at 6-7 cm and took me to a room right away. Then I was at 8-9 and the doctor was being called, and then at 10 cm. Pat said he would be right back - he wanted to move the car and grab our bag which had our camera, cell phones and flip video camera. Doctor said if he left, he would miss the birth! At this point I knew I was not going to get my epidural! All of a sudden it was 10:10 and I was pushing. Max arrived at 10:51 am. He weighed in at 7 pounds and 6 ounces, 20 inches long. A perfect little 'sprout'.

We have now been home just over a week and we are adjusting to life as a family of four. Leah has been a good little helper. She likes to get mommy a diaper, pick out clothes and shows concern when Max cries. Max continues to do well too. He sleeps well at night (4-5 hour chunks) and is becoming more alert each day. Our biggest adjustment is changing a boy diaper. We have had to do a lot of laundry over the past week - one day included seven outfits! But we have enjoyed every moment!
