Trick or Treat

What a fantastic weekend full of Halloween fun! We had such beautiful weather and we made the most of it by doing some final fall activities before we get cold next week. Saturday we went to Halloween Nights at Parky's Farm. We had told Leah about this on Friday - and all we heard for the next 24 hours was 'When are we going on a hayride?" I dressed Leah and Max appropriately for fall in their Osh-Kosh before we headed out for the day.
Before anyone was going on a hayride Saturday night two kiddos needed new winter coats (see pics below). After a quick trip home from our long day of shopping - yes, I did start my Christmas shopping! - we headed out to Parky's Farm. Parky's Farm is a part of the Hamilton County Parks and is a great place for toddler and preschool age children. There are many petting zoo type animals, playground and a small hiking trail. Each year Parky's Farm puts together a month filled with fall activities at night. We were lucky enough to arrive just before the sun set for the night. We parked right along the fence of about a dozen horses. Leah made friends with one in particular. She really liked to pet him, but she was a little afraid to feed him. Once we got through the main entrance, there were several activities to choose from. We decided to do the hayride first since there was not much of a line. The tractor pulled us through the lit-up woods. There were mainly large blow-up characters scattered throughout the woods, but Leah enjoyed it. Afterwards, we enjoyed a children's sing-a-long that Leah loved. She danced, laughed, sang and clapped. Next we headed over to the pony rides - another activity that Leah had mentioned several times. She is learning patience. There was a long line for the pony rides, but Daddy kept her happy up on his shoulders. It was finally Leah's turn, and she could not have been any happier. Once we were finished with the pony ride we walked throughout Parky's Farm to see all of the animals and found some great photo opportunities. We then decided to do a hayride one more time. The line was quite long at this point, so what better way to distract Leah - with a pumpkin cookie! We enjoyed sitting in the hay looking at the light displays. We know Leah enjoyed the night and can't wait for next year so that Max can be a bit more involved. After leaving Parky's Farm we headed over to Graeter's for ice cream. This was a first for Leah. We ordered her vanilla, but of course she saw our 'purple ice cream', and there was no sharing on her part. Now, in the picture, she looks like quite a 'wild' child. Her pig tails had fallen out and fortunately there was a headband in the car! After a busy Saturday we had a low-key Halloween Day. Both Leah and Max took excellent afternoon naps and were well rested for some pumpkin carving. It was another beautiful day, so we headed outside to carve our pumpkins. Max hung out in his exersaucer and Leah was very interested in what Daddy was doing. For costumes I had originally thought I would dress Leah and Max as Minnie and Mickey - but I saw a really cute scarecrow costume for Max - so I switched to Dorothy and the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz. Leah was the perfect Dorothy and Max a perfect Scarecrow!I took Leah and Max to a few houses on our street while Pat gave out treats. Leah was a little timid at first. She is always very careful around strangers, and tonight was no exception. She wasn't too sure about going up to other people's homes, but after a few houses, she got the hang of it. She was really good about saying 'trick or treat' - we had been practicing all day - and she is always good about saying 'thank you.' After we had been to about a dozen homes, we headed back to our house. Leah had several suckers in her pumpkin bucket, so she was a happy camper - she wanted to go home to have a sucker! When we got back to the house, Pat and I switched duties so that he could enjoy some time with Leah and Max. The fresh air and stroll had Max sleeping pretty fast, while Leah was full of energy! Once they got back, Leah wanted to hand out candy, and she did a pretty good job. She was frightened by some of the scary costumes, and she would run into the garage. I think she enjoyed passing out the candy more than going door-to-door herself. What a perfect weekend!

Battle of the Bricks

This past weekend the whole family - well, almost whole family - was in town for the Miami-OU football game. My dad and Pat's family all came into town Friday evening for a weekend full of tailgating, football and fun. My mom stayed home so that she could start to put her new kitchen back together and my brother and his family were in PA.Both of Pat's parents and I attended Miami while Pat and his sister Dayna went to OU. So it was a fun day of picking on each other and watching the first half of the game. After the band played we had decided that the little ones had enough and went home. Good thing we left, as OU gave Miami a pretty good beating...34-13. There is always next year!

Movie Night!

We have a new tradition in our home, or at least we hope that it is the start of one. We have designated Friday nights to be Movie Night. We are so busy throughout the week and by the time Friday rolls around Pat and I are pooped. So we decided that we would do an early dinner, get Leah and Max bathed and curl up on the couch with popcorn and blankets and enjoy a movie. Leah's pick for our first movie night was Beauty and the Beast. We really didn't think Leah would watch an entire movie - she never has. But she surprised us and stayed on the couch almost the entire time - there was about 20 minutes left and she finally got fidgety and had to get down to play with the dog. Max only made it through the opening credits and he was asleep! It was a fun night and we look forward to many more movie nights!

Fall Pictures

It has been well over a year since we took Leah to have her pictures taken at a studio, and Max has never been. I initially wanted to take them in June - right after Max was born and for Leah's birthday. Our summer was just too busy and time got away, and before I knew it fall was here. Actually, I am glad that it worked out this way because Max is starting to develop a little personality and it clearly shows in the pictures. All pictures were taken by Portrait Innovations. Enjoy! And our favorites...

Fall with Family

My parents were in town last weekend - and it was the perfect fall weekend! So of course we had to do all-things-fall. But before we started in with the fall festivities, we took Leah and Max to have their pictures taken - see the next post. After business was taken care of, we headed to the northern part of Lebanon to the Hidden Valley Fruit Farm, a place that Pat and I have been going to for about six years. Leah enjoyed riding on a pony and the caterpillar train ride, and we all went on a hayride throughout the property. We saw bee hives, apple trees and of course, pumpkins! After we headed in-doors looking for apples. My favorite is the Honeycrisp - and unfortunately they are gone for the year. Pat loves the Macouns - and they had plenty. Leah likes them too - she has one just about everyday. Max is content with plain applesauce - next year will be his year to try a real, tasty apple! We then picked out pumpkins and headed home. We went to Flub's in the evening and learned that Flub's was closing until March. We were lucky to go that night! Sunday morning we went to Bern's Garden Center and picked out some more fall treats - pumpkins, mums and pansies. For our anniversary my parents said they were getting us two Burning Bushes for our front yard, so we picked those out. And as they did for Leah, Memaw and Hippa purchased a tree for Max - a beautiful Maple. We are anxious for its arrival! It was the perfect family weekend enjoying all-things-fall!

Pee Pee on the Potty

Leah did it! This morning I went in her room to get her up. I flipped her light on and she sat straight up in bed and said "pee pee on potty mommy" So we went in the bathroom and Leah sat down. About 5 minutes later, she got up and sure enough, she had gone pee pee! Now, I am of course very hopeful that this is the start to potty training, but when we got home this afternoon she had absolutely no interest. Oh well - we will not push her, but if she asks to go we will certainly encourage her to use the potty. I just need a few days home alone with Leah to get her started. Everything else she has done has come so easily - giving up a bottle, sleeping in a twin bed and giving up the pookie - I just hope this next step will be just as easy!

Visiting With The Tobin's

Last weekend we had a great time hosting our good friends Sean and Natalie, who also happen to be Max's Godparents. We spent Friday evening at the Page's home eating pizza and catching up with everyone while the boys golfed. After the hubbies got home, Pat Page insisted on reading to Leah and Lily.

Saturday was all about the Fall. We started the day in Lebanon at the Apple Fest. It was a perfect day for a street fair - we smelled plenty of goodies and saw many interesting people and crafts.

After Apple Fest we headed north to Hidden Valley Fruit Farm - a small orchard Pat and I have been going to for several years. Once at the orchard we picked out some delicious apples - Macouns for Pat and Honeycrisp for Leah and me. Sean enjoyed checking out the pumpkins with Leah. We all enjoyed the perfect fall day outside listening to some live entertainment while eating caramel apples. They were so delicious they were gone before a picture could be taken!
After the orchard we headed home - they boys had some 'errands' to run and the girls just wanted to enjoy a quiet afternoon catching up while Leah and Max took their naps. We finished the day with a yummy dinner and s'mores. It was Leah's first s'mores experience, and she was not too thrilled. The s'mores were too 'sticky' for her. Someday she will learn to appreciate the tasty experience of s'mores!

sorry Natalie, your head got cut off!
Natalie took photos of the weekend too. Once I get those I will update this post! It was a perfect visit and we can't wait for the next one this winter!
