I have 'pinned' so many recipes, projects and ideas on Pinterest, but rarely ever follow through. But this project was definitely do-able, and it made complete sense to me....the hallway closet.

All of our crap that was in the closet |
Our closet in our front hall has always been too full and not very functional. Part of the problem was just that it needed to be cleaned out - several coats have now been packed up for Goodwill. But we also store other items in our closet - like the vacuum, a bin of games, a bin of arts and crafts and a bin of hats/gloves/scarves/blankets/junk.

Pat even painted the closet! |
When I saw this idea on Pinterest, I thought it was a perfect solution! Most of the time when we get home in the winter, we take of our coat and hang it on the back of a chair or on a door knob. Even though it takes just an extra few seconds to use a hanger, it just wasn't happening. Then I saw an idea that took out the coat hanger/rod and replaced it with hooks - brilliant! We were already 'hooking' the coats elsewhere, now we could just do it in the closet - where they belong! And by doing so the closet now feels much more spacious!

Kids were nicely distracted...this is when Noah fell asleep in his Jumparoo |
Pat got started before I could get the 'before' picture...but just imagine the typical coat closet - jammed pack full of coats, items tossed everywhere on a top shelf, and other items thrown onto the floor.
Pat is going to build a new shelf for above the coats for additional storage - but that is a project for next weekend. And we may add another row of three more hooks on the right side so that the kids can reach for their own coats/backpacks. Here are some after pics minus the shelf...
